Week Beginning 6th June
Welcome back to a new half term;
This week our learning will be as follows.
- In mathematics we will be learning to divide using remainders.
- In English we will continue our work around the Lost Happy Endings by Carol Anne Duffy and Jane Ray.
- In RHE we will learning to notice our feelings.
- Our blocked foundation subject is Design and Technology. We will learn about bread and think about how it is made. We will also test ingredients for Hot Cross Buns.
- Our science topic this term is states of matter (solids, liquids and gases).
We are looking forward to Sports Day at Croydon Arena and hope that many parents will be able to attend to cheer their children on! Children should wear PE kit on Thursday and for their PE lessons on Wednesday.
Children will complete the statutory multiplication tables check during the week beginning 13th June. They will have the opportunity to practice during that week. Southwark Class will take the check on Thursday 16th of June and Millennium Class on Friday 17th |June.
Week Beginning 22nd May 2022
This week our learning is as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue with our work on multiplication and division by 10 and 100.
- In English we will begin to predict the ending of our story, The Lost Happy Endings.
- In science we will think about conservation.
- In RHE we will be learning about noticing feelings.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is RE. We will learn about Judaism and focus on the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments.
Our Jubilee Day Celebration is on Wednesday 24th May. Children may dress up as a “something significant” from the last 30 years and bring some food to share for an afternoon picnic. A copy of the letter which went to parents is attached.

Southwark Bridge Class have their last swimming lesson on Tuesday. We will be carrying out assessments so it would be really helpful if everyone could bring their swimming kits.
Week Beginning 16th May
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will be multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.
- In English we will be planning a new ending to a fairy story or traditional tale.
- In science we will be learning about conservation and the work of Sir David Attenborough.
- In RHE we will be learning to notice our feelings.
- In history we will be continuing our learning on Ancient Egypt.
Millennium Class will have PE on Wednesday and Friday. Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday.
Monday is Hispanic Day. Further information can be found in the poster below.
Week Beginning 9th May

Children have been given a pack to help them practice at home and links to a practice test and times tables rock stars have been posted on Google Classroom. We would be grateful for parents’ support in helping children practice for the check.[/dropshadowbox]
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will learn to use formal written methods to carry out multiplication calculations.
- In English we will look at traditional tales and write a poem with a forest setting.
- In reading we will carry out activities based on a non-fiction, tourist information text.
- In science we will look at food chains,
- In RHE we will be thinking about “looking after ourselves.”
- Our blocked foundation subject will be history. We will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians.
Millennium Class will have their last swimming lesson on Tuesday and will do PE on Wednesday. Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday and will swim on 17th and 24th May.
Week Beginning 2nd May
Monday is a bank holiday so our first day back at school is Tuesday.
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will work on column addition and subtraction and we will use the skills we have learned to solve problems.
- In English we will learn about the features of a diary entry and we will write our own diary entries based on our text, the Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray.
- In science we will go outside to look at invertebrates. We will then try to classify them by their features.
- In RHE we have started a new programme of work called Cues-Ed. This week we will learn to look after our emotional well being through eating, sleeping and relaxation.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is computing. We will learn to use HTML tags to create and edit text.
Millennium Class will be swimming on Tuesday and doing PE on Wednesday. Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday.
Week Beginning 25th April
Welcome Back to a new half term.
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will conclude our work on fractions. We will convert between mixed number and improper fractions.
- In English we will begin a new unit of work based on the Lost Happy Ending by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray. We will read the book and respond to illustrations. We will also do a short piece of creative writing based on one of the illustrations in the book.
- In science we will learn about invertebrates.
- Our blocked foundation subject will be music. We will follow a unit of work based on our Ancient Egypt topic focussing on pitch.
Millennium Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday.
This term parents have been asked to collect their children from the playground (behind the dining hall).
Week Beginning 4th April
This is our last week of term. The children have worked hard and are looking forward to a well deserved break.
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In English we will be looking at the poem Jellyfish by Michael Rosen, we will look at the way jellyfish move before planning and writing our own Jellyfish poem.
- In mathematics we will introduce improper fractions.
- In science we will learn about invertebrates.
- In RHE we will think about anxiety.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week will be RE. We will learn about the importance of the Bible for Christians, compare versions of the Easter story in the four gospels and look at Easter signs and symbols.
We will do PE on Wednesday and children should come into school in PE kit on that day. There will be no swimming this week.
It was lovely to see parents last week. It is really nice to be able to do parents evening in person again. We are looking forward to seeing more parents on Wednesday evening. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have not been able to make an appointment.
Week Beginning 28th March
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue our work on mixed number fractions.
- In English we will compose an oral poem as a class and work towards writing a “change your mind” poem.
- In science we will classify animals.
- In RHE we will learn about the risks associated with alcohol.
- Our blocked foundation subject will be Design and Techonology. We will construct our bags and decorate them with fabric crayons. Finally we will evaluate our bags.
Millennium Class will do PE on Wednesday and Friday. Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. On PE days children should come to school in PE kit with their school jumpers.

Week Beginning 21st March
We had a great trip to Croydon Library on Friday to see the cat-astrophic adventures of Dollop and Crinkle. We hope that all the children enjoyed the show.
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will work on fractions. We will find unit and non-unit fractions of quantities and introduce mixed number fractions.
- In English we will evaluate and perform a selection of poems by Michael Rosen.
- In science we will learn that living things can be grouped according to their properties.
- In RHE we will learn about the health risks associated with smoking.
- Our blocked foundation subject will be Design and Technology. We will be analysing a range of bags before designing our own bag for life. We will develop our sewing skills.
Millennium Class will do PE on Wednesday and Friday. Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday.
Well done to Millennium Class who won the spaghetti and marshmallow building challenge during science week. The prize will be a slime making session in the summer term!
Week Beginning 14th March
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will learn about decimals. We will learn to recognize and use tenths and hundredths.
- In English we will study the poem, Words Are Ours by Michael Rosen. We will write a list poem based on Michael Rosen’s poem.
- In science we will do daily science lessons as part of science week.We will take part in a whole school investigation, constructing a structure out of spaghetti and marshmallows. We will look at the work of the geometrist Maryam Mirzakhani and carry out geometry investigations.
- In RHE we will look at keeping healthy.
Southwark Class will swim on Tuesday and do PE on Wednesday. Millennium Class will do PE on Wednesday and Friday.

We will be leaving school at 9.45am, walking to Croydon Central Library and return to school in time for lunch. This event is free. [/dropshadowbox]
