Week beginning 3rd July 2017.

This week marks the beginning of July.

In Maths this week, we will investigate and solve problems involving multiplication and division.

In English, the children will review features of an information leaflet, in grammar we will look at prepositional phrases, direct and reported speech and finally revise the use of the present perfect tense.

In Science, the children will investigate how animals and plants depend on each other and then we will learn about food chains.

Please encourage your child to use Mathletics and Spellodrome at home to consolidate their learning. The children are allowed to use the computers in class if they cannot access the Internet at home.  There are a few children who are not still not submitting their homework. Please check and sign your child’s homework diary each week and ensure that they bring a reading book home every day.

In Maths this week, we will solve money problems and conduct calculation and reasoning assessments.

In English, the children will undertake assessment in reading and writing. We will revisit our learning on complex sentences in writing.

In Science, we will look at how we group animals and use a classification key.

In PE, we will look at various techniques in athletics.

On Tuesday, 27th June the whole school will be going to Whitgift School for the School photograph, a reminder letter was sent out last week.

The children worked hard last week which was Healthy Schools week and they all monitored and tracked their progress daily to check that they had breakfast, were drinking at least six glasses of water, exercised for an hour and had met their five a day portion of fruit and vegetables. They were also interested in seeing the daily results of the teachers who had taken up the 10,000 steps a day challenge. We hope that the children will incorporate these good habits into their daily routine.

In Maths this week, we will solve problems involving decimals.

In English, the children will read stories and compare stories that have similar themes.

In Science, we will investigate which materials make good conductors and insulators in our topic, Electricity.

In PE, the children are participating in Fitness Frenzy.

Please encourage your child to use Mathletics and Spellodrome. There are homework tasks assigned as well as  different topics pupils can use for revision.

Well done Mason for taking part in the trials for the Croydon Athletics.

Congratulations to Mindy too who doing very well in Cello.

Week beginning 12th June 2017.

This week is an exciting one for the whole school as we are taking part in a Healthy Week  Challenge to raise awareness about healthy living,  healthy food choices, exercise and positive wellbeing.

In Maths this week, we will investigate and solve problems about fractions in deeper depth.

In English, the children will read stories about different cultures and explore similarities and differences in lifestyle and games with children in other countries.

In DT, we will make a healthy breakfast using the food items the children will bring to school.

In PE, the children will have a joint session with the Year 3 classes and Southwark Class in a carousel of different cardio exercises.

We had a very successful and enjoyable Sports day on 8th June and the children worked exceptionally hard and showed good camaraderie and sportsmanship throughout the day.

On Saturday 17th June 2017 is our school’s Summer Fair and we hope you will join us in raising funds for the school.

Welcome to the second half of the summer term.

In Maths this week, we will complete our work on calculating the area and perimeter of shapes.

In English, the children will plan and write formal and informal letters and understand the rules and context of using standard English.

In Topic, we will aim to complete our learning on how the rainforest is under threat and how we can protect it.

In Science, the children will aim to build a working circuit and buzzer.

Sports Day is on Thursday, 8th June 2017. The children are aware of the teams they are in and we hope they will all participate fully to make the day a success. The children will need to come to school in the PE Kit as well as have a packed lunch and enough water to keep hydrated throughout the day.

Week beginning 22nd May 2017.

This is the last week of this half of the term.

In Maths this week, we will revise finding the area and perimeter of shapes. We will review our knowledge on finding coordinates in the first quadrant and drawing polygons.

In English, the children will plan and write formal and informal letters and understand the rules and context of using standard English

In Topic, we will investigate how the rainforest is under threat and how we can protect it.

In Science, the children will build a working circuit and buzzer this will tie in with Design and Technology whereby the children will ‘build’ their houses and fit in the working light and buzzer.

The class will be going on a trip to Kew Gardens this Thursday, please ensure your child is in school by 8.25 as we intend to leave early. Kindly ensure that you have signed your child’s permission slip.

We would like to congratulate Cory, Mindy, Michael, Sinyi, Euan and Antonio who have joined the 100 club in Maths. We are aiming to have more children succeed in this challenge and become members of the 144 club because the expectation is that all children know their multiplication and related division facts up to the 12 times table by the end of Year 4.

In Maths this week, we will learn explain our reasoning and strategies when solving number investigations as well as consolidate our methods of addition and subtraction.

In English, the children will answer questions from a comprehension text to sharpen their deduction and inference skills. We will revise writing complex sentences.

In Topic, we will investigate how plants and animals have adapted to live in rainforests.

In RE, the children will investigate what happens in a Gurdwara.

In Science, the children will aim to create a working circuit.

In PE, we are learning about ball games and athletics.

On Thursday, 17th of May the children will have individual, family and class photos taken. The Croydon Cycle Circuit takes place on 18th May 2017.

In English, the children will aim to use talk to persuade an audience about our point of view about Zoos

In Topic, we will continue to research and learn about different layers of the rainforest and the flora and fauna found in each.

In RE, the children will investigate what the 5K’s in Sikhism are.

In Science, the children will explore safety aspects of using electricity.

In PE, we are learning about ball games and athletics.

There are a few children who do not complete their homework and although we do offer them support in class. It is important that this work is completed at home so that you can support them adequately.

In Maths this week, we will continue our work explaining our reasoning when solving maths investigations. The pupils will justify and prove their answers. We will revise on Roman Numerals and rounding decimals to 1 and 2 places.

In English, the children will aim to complete the work they have started on using the language of agreement and disagreement to justify an opinion.  In writing, they will improve on prior learning about complex sentences.

In Topic, we will learn about different layers of the rainforest and the flora and fauna found in each.

In RE, the children will investigate what the 5K’s in Sikhism are.

In Science, the children will explore safety aspects of using electricity.

In PE, we will have ball games and athletics.

Please check that your child brings their homework diary home each week as there are a few children that are not submitting homework.

The children were given a letter about a trip to Kew Gardens on the 25th of May 2017, please sign and return the permission slip to the school as soon as possible.  We have requested that parents please use the ParentPay system to pay for the trip.

The children had a fruitful first week back to school.

In Maths this week, we are learning to explain our reasoning when solving maths investigations. The pupils will justify and prove their answers. We will revise on Roman Numerals and rounding decimals to 1 and 2 places.

In English, the children will use the language of agreement and disagreement to justify an opinion. In writing, they will improve on prior learning about complex sentences.

In Topic, we will learn about different layers of the rainforest and the flora and fauna found in each.

There is an amendment to out RE topic, we are studying Sikhism and we will explore the key beliefs of Sikhs.

In PE we will have ball games and athletics.

Please check that your child brings their homework diary home each week as there are a few children that are not submitting homework.

There will be a letter at the end of this week about a school trip next month. Could you kindly check that you have a Parent Pay account as this is the service you will need to pay for the trip.
