Millennium
Week Beginning – 26th September
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In English we will continue our work based on the Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Rauf. We will learn about the features of a non-chronological report and write our own non-chronological report based on Refugees.
- In mathematics we will add 4 digit number with regrouping and develop different strategies for checking our answerrs.
- In science we will continue our work on sound.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is RE we will be beginning a unit entitled “why do you judge me.” We will look at the question of discrimination, look at how world religions ask us to treat each other with respect and look at the experience of Anne Frank.
Southwark Class will do PE on Tuesday and Thursday. Millennium Class will swim on Tuesday and have a PE lesson on Friday.

Week Beginning 19th September
School will be closed on Monday due to the bank holiday for the funeral of the queen. We look forward to seeing children on Tuesday.
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will start a new unit on addition and subtraction. This week we will learn to add four digit numbers. We will also learn to estimate the answers to calculations and to check answers.
- In English we will continue our work around the Boy at the Back of the Class. We will learn about the difference between fact and opinion and create learning posters with facts about refugees.
- In science we will continue our learning on sound.
- In RHE we will begin the unit of work “being me in my world.
- In PE the children will learn to play hockey.
- Our blocked foundation subject is music. We will compose and record operatic music based on the colour theme we picked last week.
Millennium Class have swimming on Tuesday. Please make sure that your child comes to school with Swimming kit and a waterproof coat. Millennium Class also have PE on Friday and Southwark Class have PE on Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school in PE kit on those days.

Week Beginning 12th September
The children have had a great first week and have settled back into school well. This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue our work on place value. We will be focussing on rounding and estimating.
- In English we will continue our work around the Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Rauf. We will be working on developing a piece of persuasive writing around a positive school culture which we will then record as an infomercial.
- In science we will investigate the question what is sound?
- In RHE we will look at the life and death of Queen Elizabeth II,
- Our blocked foundation subject is music. This term we have an exciting opportunity to work with the English National Opera. We will be working on composing a piece of music.
This half term Millennium Class will go swimming every Tuesday morning. They will need to bring to school as swimming costume and towels. They may also bring a swimming hat and/or goggles.
Don’t forget our harvest festival is on Tuesday 13th September. Food contributions can be brought in on Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Week Beginning 5th September
Welcome to a new year!
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In English we will introduce a new book, The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q Rauf.
- In mathematics we will work on place value.
- In science we will begin a new topic on sound.
- In our foundation subject time we will do some additional PHSE work. We will develop our class contract and follow the NSPCC’s PANTS programme. We will also do some work in RE around the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah.
We will let parents know about PE times as soon as possible.
A new school year begins!
Week Beginning 16th July
We have reached the last week of the school year. The children have worked really hard this year and we hope everyone enjoys a well earned break. This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will revise our telling the time skills.
- In English we will complete the Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson.
- In science we will create zig zag books demonstrating our understanding of solids, liquids and gases.
- Our blocked foundation subject this week is computing. We will learn to create and use Excel spreadsheets.

Week Beginning 4th July
This week is arts week and our learning will follow an arts theme.
- In mathematics we will look at symmetry in 2d shapes.
- In English we will base our work on Little People Big Dreams, Jean-Michel Basquiat by Maria Isabella Sanchez Vegara. We will explore the book using drama and then create posters and newspaper articles based on the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
- In music we will look at the music of Puerto Rico to reflect Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Puerto Rican heritage. We will follow a similar theme in dance in PE.
- In RE we will be working on entries to the Spirited Arts competition. We will plan and create a piece of art based on the theme “Searching for God.” We will also create an accompanying piece of writing.
Southwark Class will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday and Millennium Class on Wednesday and Friday.
Week Beginning 27th June 2022
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue our work on co-ordinates.
- In English we will begin by exploring The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson using drama. We will then work towards writing our own page which will be illustrated in the style of Wayne Anderson.
- In science we will investigate how some material change state when heated or cooled.
- In geography we will continue our work around the water cycle.
- In RHE we will look at the thinking traps which can be unhelpful. We will also discuss puberty with a girls only group.
Millennium Class will do PE on Wednesday and Friday and Southwark Class on on Wednesday and Thursday.
Week Beginning 20th June
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will be learning about co-ordinates.
- In English we will start a new unit of work based The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson.
- In science we will compare and group materials according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases.
- Our blocked foundation subject will be geography. We will learn about the water cycle.
- In RHE we will recap on our work following the NSPCCs PANTS programme.

Both year 4 classes will do PE on Wednesday and Southwark class will also do PE on Thursday. On Friday we will be watching a performance by Trinity School Jazz Band.

Week Beginning 13th June
This week our learning will be as follows;
- In mathematics we will continue our work on division with remainders.
- In English we will conclude our work around the Lost Happy Endings by Carol Anne Duffy and Jane Ray. We will write in role as the witch from the story.
- In RHE we will continue our work on noticing feelings.
- In science we will look at changing states.
- Our blocked foundation subject is Design and Technology. We will design our own recipe for hot cross buns, then make and evaluate the buns.
This week the children will be taking their statutory multiplication tables check. They will have the opportunity to do practice tests on Monday and Tuesday , then Southwark Class will do their check on Thursday and Millennium Class on Friday. Children should keep practicing at home too!
Southwark Class have PE on Wednesday and Thursday, and Millennium Class on Wednesday and Friday. Children should wear school PE kit on those days.
