Week commencing 25th April

Well done to everyone for all your hard work over the Spring Term. It is time for a well deserved break!

Thank you for your amazing generosity, Year 3 have raised over £100 for The Wildlife Trust and will be able to sponsor 3 animals! (More to come about that after Easter!) The children had an amazing time with the animals and were extremely brave with the snakes!

A big thank you also to Shae Bunnies for donating their time for our children to a wonderful Easter treat!

Here’s what we will be learning when we return:

English- We will be beginning a new text, Lob by Linda Newbery. We will be practising using expanded noun phrases, responding to illustrations from the book, practising reading for performance and having a go at some poetry writing.

Reading- We will be looking at an extract from The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, focusing on the use and meaning of key vocabulary, reading for prosody (reading fluency) and discussing key ideas from the text.

We will be beginning to send home reading books on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for those children who have not already chosen them. Reading diaries should be brought to school each day.

Maths- We will be learning about parallel and perpendicular lines in polygons, composing and decomposing polygons and drawing polygons, drawing compound shapes with perpendicular and parallel lines, extending lines and drawing shapes with given properties.

If your child would like to practise their learning at home, there are lots of free games which they can use, including Daily 10 from Topmarks or Hit the Button

PE- We will be continuing to work on ball skills  and also learning some of the rules and skills of netball.

History- We will be investigating daily life in Ancient Egypt, the importance of farming and beginning to learn about mummification.

Science- We will be continuing a new topic about rocks and soils, comparing and grouping together different rocks according to their properties.

RHE- We are going to begin to consider what makes healthy relationships.

Homework- We will post homework on Google Classroom each week. We have added tasks to Mathletics. Additionally, the children will have access to Language Angels to practise their new vocabulary in Spanish. We hope to give your child access to TTRockstars also this week, a fun way to practise times tables.

PE will take place on Monday and Friday for Blackfriars class and Tuesday and Friday for Waterloo class. Children should come to school in their school PE kits on those days.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.
