Week beginning 27th January 2020

Over the next few weeks, Miss Handley will be teaching Maths in both Year 6 classes and Miss Blackford will be teaching both classes’ English lessons.

Maths – This week’s maths learning objectives are:

  • Compare fractions with unrelated denominators using equivalence;
  • Know decimal equivalents for halves, quarters, fifths, eighths, tenths and hundredths;
  • Use mental division strategies to find non-unit fractions of amounts;
  • Recognise equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages;
  • Find percentages of amounts;
  • Calculate and interpret the mean as an average.

English – This week, we shall be finishing writing our non-chronological reports. Once complete we shall we moving on to our new unit by creating character profiles based on Stanley, from Holes, and innovating our own character to join Camp Green Lake.

Science – As part of our unit on Animals, including humans, our learning objectives are:

  • To know how the blood is pumped around the body.
  • To know the main parts of the circulatory system and know the job of the blood and blood vessels.
  • I can explain what the circulatory system is.
  • I can identify the main parts of the circulatory system are the blood, heart and blood vessels.
  • I can explain how oxygen gets into our blood stream and to the rest of the body
  • talking.

PE – Swimming is on this week. On Fridays, we shall be learning Boxercise.

Reading – We shall be continuing to read our class text, Holes. We shall be completing activities based on improving our explanation, retrieval and interpretation skills.

Geography – This term, we will be learning all about Scandinavia. This week’s learning objectives are:

• To understand key aspects of the climate zones of Scandinavia.
• To understand the position and significance of the Arctic circle
• Use graphs to identify physical features.

History – We shall be learning about the Holocaust.
