Forest School

At Howard Primary School children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have regular Forest School sessions where children are given the opportunity to connect with nature, discover, explore, create and have adventures. We have recently started an after school club for older year groups.  Children learn how to take risks and how to use a range of tools safely. They learn about and observe the wildlife and trees, naming the animals and birds and seeing the changes in the seasons, growing to respect and appreciate the natural world and feel a sense of awe and wonder. Children have the opportunity to create using many different resources and develop their physical strength by balancing and moving heavy objects. They learn how to listen to each other, to share and discuss ideas, think how to solve problems and how to care for and respect each other.  Children especially enjoy when we light a fire and make hot chocolate and toast marshmallows and being out in the rain. Most of all children have fun.
