Best Books for Year 3 | Ages 7-8 | BooksForTopics

Expertly selected books for 7 and 8 year old children (lovereading4kids.co.uk)

Reading

Children are asked to read at home on a daily basis and their book should be brought to school each day. It is helpful if parents can comment regularly in their child’s Reading Record, particularly when their child has finished their book. Children are responsible for changing and selecting their own books in the morning.

Homework

Children will be given homework each Friday to be handed in by the following Tuesday. Children are also asked to learn spellings and times tables at home. They are responsible for recording their homework in their homework diary.

Other

Children are asked to bring to school a water bottle. They should have a waterproof coat when it is raining or the forecast is for rain.

Week Beginning 11th September

September 8, 2017

The children have settled well into year 3 and we are looking forward to next week.

  • In mathematics we will be working on place value. We are learning to compare and order numbers, count in multiples of 50 and 100 and read and write numbers to 1000.
  • In English we will be starting work around Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura. We will be exploring character and settings using questioning, shared reading and drama.
  • In our topic time we will be starting our new topic Scavengers and Settlers. We will be asking questions to establish what we want to learn about the Stone Age.
  • In reading we are enjoying a short class book entitled The Ice Bear by Jackie Morris. We are starting each day with quiet reading and will be starting our guided reading in groups.
  • In Science we will be introducing our forces and magnets.
  • In PE we will be working on ball skills.

It is important that your child brings their reading book and record to school every day to read during quiet reading time. Children should revise their multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times table. There will be an assessment next week.
