The Velodrome experience

July 13, 2017

On Tuesday, 11th July 2017 3 pupils from Year 5 and 5 other pupils from year 6 went to a velodrome up in Herne Hill. It was an amazing experience for all of us as we were given the chance to ride the bicycles used in the Olympics; we were all very scared at first but with some helpful training by a Great Britain cycling coach we quickly got the hang of it.

Firstly, we did five laps around the track and gradually as we progressed we went higher up on the slope which was not as challenging as we expected it to be. We did many fun activities and in the end we were put into teams and had some relay races which was very exciting.

Once again we all had a lot of fun as it was a fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend it to others as cycling is also a sport people can keep healthy with.

Tuesday 11 July 2017

On the 11th of July eight people from y6 and y5 were taken by Mr Govindon to the Herne Hill velodrome and here is what happened.

Firstly, we got on the 468 bus to Herne Hill.

Secondly, we hopped onto our Olympic bikes and were all worried because we thought that we were going to fall off.

Then we set off but the bikes were strange because we could not stop so to start off, we went slowly and then we gradually got faster.

After that, we played a game called ‘line’ where we had to cycle round once on the white line then when we went round once on the red line and we had to carry on getting higher and higher.

Then, we played a game called ‘animals’ were the man would call out an animal and it depended on the animals speed if it was a tortoise we would go slowly and  if it was a cheetah we would go fast.

Finally, we had a race between two teams and they both got off to a good start. It was so close between the two teams and then the last person was beaten.

Then we got the 468 back to school and were happy and grateful to go.
