Week beginning 26th November 2018

Writing

We will be writing newspaper reports based on the story of the Pied Piper

 

Spelling Punctuation And Grammar (SPAG)

we are looking at direct and reported speech and also use of the passive and active voice in writing.

 

Reading

We are continuing to read Holes by Louis Suchar.

I cannot stress how crucial it is for development of all areas of literacy ,that the  children be reading from the high quality age appropriate fiction and  non fiction books we have available in school. We expect a book to be completed within a two week period.

Maths

This week we will be adding and subtracting numbers with up to two decimal places.

RE

we are continuing to look at the Nativity story and will be using our storyboards to recount the  story as a fully developed writing activity using the year 6 writing success criteria.

Science

We continue to investigate electrical circuits using the associated symbols.

Important information

Friday 30 November is a Mufti day if children bring in a bottle of something for the tombola. Alcohol is permitted

Week beginning 12th November 2018

This week many children will be working at Whitgift school. Please provide a packed lunch for those selected to attend every day. The children attending Whitgift will return to Howard by 2:30 each day.

Those in class will be working on the themes below.

Maths:
This week, we shall be  continuing to look  a adding and subtracting  fractions with unrelated denominators and/or mixed numbers.

English:

We shall  be  writing a film review of the film Zoo,  in line with our upcoming trip to the cinema as part of the Into Film Festival. We shall be looking at how to plan, write an edit an effective film review.

SPAG:

we continue to prepare for the tests in this subject

we have reviewed, all the year4/5 compulsory spellings and have completed the first set of year 6 statutory words.

The second set of words are:

ancient, apparent, appreciate, attached, available, average,  awkward, bargain, bruise, category, cemetery.

I am happy to provide you with the full set of words if  you would like.

Reading: The class book is holes by Louis Suchar.

Year 6 children are encouraged to independently select books from the year 6 library located in Tower Bridge Class

It is expected that  a book review will be completed at the end of each bookIn Year 6, children are responsible for changing their own books independently. We do ask that children read at home everyday and mark this by a simple comment in their homework diary. Please do encourage your child to read aloud, even though they are in Year 6, to build the stamina with their fluency.

PE:Our PE lessons will be on Friday Please ensure your child has their full PE kit on this day.
