Hungerford1

Welcome to Hungerford Bridge Class.

Class teacher: Miss Agyemang

Teaching assistant: Ms Jones

Week beginning 24th September

September 23, 2018

Writing

We will be continuing to focus on our first key text: Leon and the Place Between. On Monday we will be reading the book and exploring key vocabulary in the story. We are going to be looking at the structure of a portal story and plotting the story on a story mountain. This will enable us to innovate our own portal stories. Please see an example of a portal story toolkit below.

SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

We will be focusing on using expanded noun phrases to describe. We will also be recapping the different word classes including: nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs and prepositions.

Reading

We are still enjoying reading Fantastic Mr Fox as a class.

Maths

We will be continuing our work on number and place value. We have been using the symbols <, > and = to compare numbers and calculations.

< means less than.

means greater/ more than.

= means equal to.

We have been encouraging the children to solve the calculations first. For example 30+30=60 and 10×5 is 50. Therefore, we know that 30+30 > 10×5.

Topic

We will be doing some work on ‘The Circus’ to fit in with our key text.

History

We are going to learn about Amy Johnson, a local historical figure.

Science

We will be looking at materials and their properties this half term.

PSHE

This week we will be looking at different strategies we can use when we feel like talking over others. This is based on a story called: ‘My Mouth is a Volcano’. Please see a link to the story below…

P.E

Monday afternoon- ball skills.

(Slot to be confirmed) – Real PE.

Real PE is an initiative that focuses on cognitive, creative, social and personal skills as well as technical skills. It proved very popular last year and I’m sure Hungerford Bridge will enjoy it this year.

Important information

Don’t forget that the new to Year 2 Parent Workshop is on Tuesday 25th at 9:00am in the dining hall (for parents only). We will be going through the expectations for the year regarding reading, writing and maths. There will also be some information on the KS1 SATs tests and an opportunity for you to ask questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

Homework

September 19, 2018

We will have stapled your child’s mathletics login into their yellow reading records by Friday. We have set two tasks on there as maths homework. We would like it to be completed by Tuesday 25th.

We will also be sending home some work on conjunctions which is also due in on Tuesday.

Thanks 🙂
