[dropshadowbox align=”none” effect=”lifted-both” width=”auto” height=”” background_color=”#c6fbbe” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]Dear Parents

It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the end of your child’s final term with us. You may have noticed that your child may be talking a lot more about moving to Year 1. This is because around this time of year we begin talking about their transition from Reception to Year 1. This can be a confusing time for your child and they may feel more anxious than usual. You can support them through this transitional phase by talking more about your own experiences, in a positive manner, eg. about your own transition to Year 1 or other transitions you have made in your life .

At school, we have planned several transition activities  to ensure your child is ready for the move in September. Before the last day of term you can expect to find out which Year 1 class your child will be in and you will have an opportunity to meet their Year 1 teachers. You will be informed of this in due course.

We thank you for your patience while these arrangements are being finalised.

Kind Regards

Miss Pillay [/dropshadowbox]

SUMMER TERM 2 TOPIC: Summer’s Here

Theme: The Farm

LITERACY:

Book Focus: Farmer Duck by Martin Wadell

The children will enjoy this delightfully engaging and slightly quirky tale about a very hardworking duck and an incredibly lazy Farmer. It will contribute well to our discussions this week about working well as a team and how we can help each other to build a stronger class team. Also it will serve as a wonderful introduction to our learning about farm life ahead of our trip to Godstone Farm next week.

Group Phonics: This term’s focus is on reading words and sentences containing all the phonemes the children have learnt throughout the year and we will be teaching strategies for instant blending of words and strategies for reading longer multisyllabic words.

UW – Knowledge and Understanding of the World: During the next two weeks we will explore the different animals that live on farms. The children will learn to identify similarities and difference between adult and young farm animals and between farm animals and pets or wild animals.

MATHS: This week we focus on patterns and shapes. Naming and talking about properties of shapes and making and explaining patterns of different types.

PE: Athletics – Last week the children enjoyed learning about track events and taking on roles of being athletes, spectators, coaches and starters in a hurdles race. This week they will explore the various roles in a relay event. [/dropshadowbox]

Extreme Weather

Last week the children were quite interested to learn about different types of extreme weather such as floods, blizzards, tsunamis, hurricanes and even droughts. So for homework we asked the children to find out a bit more and find or draw a picture about some of the extreme weathers they were interested in and write a few short sentences/labels about it.
