AUTUMN 2 TOPIC: Light and Dark

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING

LITERACY:

  • Core Text: It was a cold dark night by Tim Hopgood
  • New Phonics learning: This week the children will begin group phonics lessons which will continue to work on blending and reviewing previously taught sounds. Please check Google Classroom for homework relevant to your child’s group.

MATHS:

Mastering Number: This week the children will:

  • subitise arrangements of 2 and 3 
  • show small quantities on their fingers
  • use positional language to describe patterns of 4.
  • make patterns showing 4.

CAL & UW: To talk about the significance of Remembrance Day

EAD: To mark Remembrance Day we will be engaging in a number of poppy based art activities including making our own poppies. We will also be continuing to create our own Rangoli patterns.

RHE: We will be considering what it means to be part of a team.

PE: There will be no PE this week due to cinema trip (see below).

FOREST SCHOOL: After all children visiting the forest last week for an introductory session, this week we will begin whole class forest school sessions with Mrs Simion. Remember these sessions will alternate each week. This week is Grosvenor Class.

Next week (Week Commencing 14th November): Parents evening meetings (Chelsea Class – Monday, Tuesday) (Grosvenor Class – Wednesday, Thursday).

AUTUMN 2 TOPIC: Light and Dark

THIS WEEK’S LEARNING

LITERACY:

  • Core Text: It was a cold dark night by Tim Hopgood
  • Phonics: To learn a new letter sound each day as follows: /z/ /x/  Please check your child’s bookbag each day for new letter formation practise sheet. Please check Google Classroom for  how to hand in completed homework.
  • New Phonics learning: This week the children will begin learning to blend lessons – please check Google Classroom for practice videos later this week.

MATHS:

Mastering Number: This week the children will:

  • explore how numbers can be composed of ones and, from this, begin to investigate the composition of 3 and 4. Composing and de-composing numbers involves children investigating part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2.
  • learn from practical experience that a ‘whole’ is made up of smaller parts and is, therefore, bigger than its parts

EAD: Creating patterns using a range of materials

CAL & UW: To  talk about the significance of Diwali and Guy Fawkes celebrations

RHE: To understand the importance of safety when using/near fireworks

PE: Dance: To copy and repeat a short set of controlled movements and actions

FOREST SCHOOL: This week the children will have their first Forest School lesson with our ForestSchool Teacher Mrs Simion. Please ensure they have the required clothing and footwear on Friday.
