Year 4 Weekly News, week commencing 17th May
Hello!
Thank you as always for all your help and support.
This week’s learning in Year 4:
Maths: We are continuing our revision of key skills by exploring the distributive laws of multiplication. We will be using adjacent multiples to help us work out answers and using partitioning to help us to solve calculations involving larger 2 digit numbers.
English: We are continuing to read Ice Palace by Robert Swindells and will be story mapping the story so far before exploring Ivan’s feelings and actions as he approaches Starjik’s lair. We will be writing in role, hot seating some characters and drawing and annotating our impressions of parts of the story.
DT: We will be exploring the sustainability of reusable bags and designing our own bags for life
PE: We will be continuing to develop our bowling and batting skills in cricket.
ICT: We are continuing to use Isle of Tune to compose a piece of music for a Pharaoh’s funeral.
Homework is a continuing project exploring our History topic, the Ancient Egyptians. Pick one task each week to complete and post your results on Google Classroom.

Year 4 weekly news, week commencing 22nd March
Hello Year 4!
We hope you are all ready for another fantastic week! Here’s what we will be learning;
Maths- we will be learning about area this week, counting squares to calculate areas and comparing the area of different shapes. We will also be looking at corresponding problems.
English- we will be continuing to look at the poems of Valerie Bloom and writing a class poem in a similar style.
Geography- we will be learning about how tribes live a traditional lifestyle in the rainforest and comparing it to our own.
ICT- we will be beginning to design our own simple toy using scratch
Science- we will be learning and creating simple food chains which include a producer, prey and predator.
Spanish- we will be saying what we can do, remembering some simple verbs
Music- we will be listening and responding to a piece of music
RHE- the girls will be learning some facts about puberty while the boys are talking about peer pressure and the effects of smoking on the body.
PE- we will be developing close catching and wicket-keeping skills as we continue to learn about cricket.

Welcome back to school Year 4! We are super excited to see you all again!
This week we will be learning:
Maths- continuing our work on decimals, we will be adding decimals to make a whole, ordering and comparing decimals and rounding decimals.
English-we are starting a new, exciting text featuring poetry from Caribbean artists. We will be learning and performing poems as well as learning about the poets themselves
Geography-we are learning to decribe the layers of the rainforest
Spanish-to learn some verbs in Spanish.
Music-we will be exploring some body percussion
PE- we will be learning some Cricket skills
For those children who are not attending school, we will continue to post work on Google Classroom but there will be no live lessons.

Welcome back to another week of home learning Year Four. Hope fully this will be our last week of learning at home and we look forward to seeing you all back with us next week!
This week we will be holding live lessons at 11.30 for you on 4 days all as well as lots of fun lessons to keep you learning remotely. The links to join our live lessons will go live at 11.25 each day on your Google Classroom stream.
Remember to join us for merit card assembly with Key Stage Two at 9.15am on Friday too.
Well done to last week’s merit card winners, Yasir, Sarah, Taliyah, Octavian, Alvin, Kayden, Katherine and Maximilian. We are very proud of you all!

English-read and appreciate a poem and to write a persuasive letter about deforestation.
Science-what are acoustics?
R.E- to be able to recognise some of the key festivals in Islam.
Geography-to identify where in the world rainforests are located.
Spanish-to recognise some verbs in Spanish.
Music-to explore percussion at home

Year 4 News Week beginning 8.2.21
Hello Year 4,
I can’t believe we have got to the end of the half term already! It has simply flown by and you have all worked so hard. We are really impressed with all the amazing work that has been submitted. Thank you all.
Our learning for this week;
English- we are continuing with our work relating to The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry and will be learning the rest of the story this week.
Maths- we are continuing our work on fractions including adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.
Geography – we will be considering the vegetation which grows in the different climates of the world.
Science- we will be exploring the pitch and frequency of sound waves.
Spanish- share a story
ICT- continue working on your coding skills in scratch
RE- we will be learning about the Muslim Holy Book
Music- practising reading and clapping how many beats are in a bar.
There will be a live story sharing session with Miss Danzey on Wednesday at 11.30 am and a Merit Assembly at 9.15 on Thursday. The meeting codes will be shared just before the lessons as always.
There will be no home learning on Friday 12th February as this is an inset day.

Year Four Week Beginning 1.2.21
Hi Year Four,
Here is your timetable for this week. This week we will be celebrating Children’s Mental Health week. This year’s mental health theme is -Express Yourself. As well as normal lessons I will be posting daily yoga poses to learn with Mrs Ancel and extra fun activities to teach us more about mental health. Please post any photos you take of you and your families trying the yoga poses. In addition, on Thursday we will be dressing to express (expressing yourselves through your clothes and hair styles) If you want to share your outfit with your class mates post me a picture to share on this week’s Wall of Fame.
Our Learning This Week
English-This week we will be beginning to read and learn the story-The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry.
Maths-We will be continuing our work on fractions covering equivalent fractions, fractions greater than one and improper fractions.
Science-We will be continuing our Sound unit exploring how different sounds are produced.
Geography-We will be continuing our Rainforest topics learning about different climate zones across the World.
R.E-We will be learning about the 5 Pillars of Islam
Music-We will be moving on to explore 6 beats in a bar.
I.C.T-We will be continuing our exploration of coding on Scratch.
Our Live lessons will be on Wednesday and Friday at 11.30am. There will be daily recorded lessons from your teachers Miss Danzey and Miss Turpie.

Year Four Weekly Blog Wk Beginning 18.1.21
This week our learning will be as follows:
In Maths we will begin learning about fractions.
In English we will do some tasks connected with the book-The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q Rauf as well as editing our non chronological reports and doing associated grammar and spelling activities.
In Science we will learn how to classify the diets of animals.
In Geography we will learn about the geographical features of the South American country Chile.
All learning will be posted on Google Classroom. The lessons will be uploaded There will be a live lesson on Friday and daily recorded lessons.
